Movemeant Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of Johanna Sylvestor as its next Executive Director. She joins the team with extensive experience in the non-profit space, and will be overlapping for several months with Founder Jenny Gaither and CEO/Founding Member Charina Lumley, who are both moving to Movemeant Foundation’s Board of Directors in June. The selection was made after an extensive national search and selection process.

Jo brings over 10 years experience in comprehensive event planning, fundraising and program management. Following her personal passion to help girls reach their full potential through physical activity, Jo is most well-known for cultivating the development of events, races and programs for Girls on the Run of the Bay Area for the past five years.  

Jo returns to the nonprofit sector driven to impact the lives of young woman through health and fitness and is committed to perpetuating Movemeant Foundation’s mission, vision and values with current and future partners.

“I remember clearly the first time I crossed the finish line in first place at my high school track meet,” says Jo. “That moment instilled a sense of confidence in me that has ultimately fueled my personal passion to empower young women to find their own sense of self-confidence through fitness.”

Jo holds a BA in Psychology from Mount Holyoke College as well as an MPH, with a concentration in health promotion from the University of Sydney. Jo lives in Bend, Oregon and is often spotted running the beautiful trails or exploring the area with her husband and two young kiddos. An active community member, Jo serves on the Board of Directors of Boys and Girls Clubs of Bend and is the Advisory Council Chair for Girls on the Run of Central Oregon. In addition, Jo is a certified distance running coach.
