How, when, why and where we eat are just as important as what we eat. So this month, as part of National Nutrition Month, our goal is simple: to enjoy the sights, sounds, memories and interactions of mealtime because we all know the experience of eating together is just as important as what we're putting into our mouths.
Each March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages Americans to return to the basics of healthful eating and this year is no different, with the added twist that we should take time to enjoy food traditions and appreciate the pleasures, great flavors and social experiences food can add to our lives.
"Slowing down and taking time to appreciate the positive emotions that accompany mealtime are important steps to developing a sustainable healthy eating plan," says Academy President Dr. Evelyn F. Crayton.
